Dentistry

Good oral health is an important part of good general health for your pet. Dental health is your choice. Let us help you keep your pet as healthy as possible.

Signs of oral and dental diseases in dogs and cats:

• Bad breath

• Loose teeth or teeth that are discolored or covered in tartar

• Your pet shies away from you when you touch the mouth area

• Drooling or dropping food from the mouth.

• Bleeding from the mouth

• Loss of appetite or loss of weight (this combination can result from diseases of many organs, and early veterinary examination is important)

If you think your pet needs dental care, we recommend that you make an appointment.

What we will do:
(Note: The steps that require extra care have an asterisk behind them, and incur extra charge to be performed as these are for dental treatment)

We will perform a preanesthesia physical exam, then a preanesthesia blood screen will be completed. If any significant abnormalities are detected the doctor will contact you to discuss further diagnostics, if they are indicated.

A preanesthetic injection will be given. An intravenous catheter will be placed and IV fluids started. General anesthesia will be induced.
An antibiotic injection will be given.

We will scale the tartar off the teeth. We will 'probe' around each tooth to determine if there is any periodontal disease. We will extract any tooth we feel is diseased or otherwise causing pain. * We will treat gum disease if indicated. * We will polish the teeth with a fluoride paste. We will apply a final fluoride treatment to the teeth. We will apply ORAVET Prophy Barrier Sealant.

Additional pain medication(s) will be administered if deemed appropriate. * Antivomiting medication will be used if there are signs of nausea upon recovery. * An antibiotic may be prescribed. *

We offer a selection of products for home care and a demonstration. * We will send home free samples for you to try products prior to purchase.

*Additional charge for service/product

Plaque and Tartar Control Prevention is the most common oral disease in pets (and in people!) and requires frequent removal of the dental plaque and tartar that forms on teeth that are not kept clean.
